Quran Caption is free and open source, available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. Choose your platform below and follow the installation steps for your operating system.

Download Quran Caption

Install on Windows

1. Download QuranCaption.Windows.exe using the button above.
2. Double-click the downloaded .exe file to launch the installer.
3. If Windows shows a “Windows protected your PC” message, click More info to inspect the file. Unsigned releases can trigger this reputation warning; choose Run anyway only for the installer downloaded from this site or the official GitHub releases.
4. Follow the installation wizard by clicking Next through the steps.
5. Launch Quran Caption from the desktop shortcut or the Start menu.

Install on macOS

1. Download the .dmg file that matches your Mac (Apple Silicon or Intel).
2. Double-click the .dmg to mount the disk image.
3. Drag the Quran Caption app into your Applications folder.
4. Eject the disk image by right-clicking it and choosing Eject.
5. Open Quran Caption from Applications.
6. If macOS cannot verify the developer, try opening the app once, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway for this trusted download. Older macOS versions use System Preferences → Security & Privacy. See Apple’s explanation of these alerts.

Install on Linux

AppImage (universal)

1. Download QuranCaption.Linux.AppImage.
2. Make it executable:

chmod +x QuranCaption.Linux.AppImage

3. Run it:

./QuranCaption.Linux.AppImage

Debian package (.deb)

1. Download QuranCaption.Linux.deb.
2. Install it:

sudo dpkg -i QuranCaption.Linux.deb

3. If dependencies are missing, fix them:

sudo apt-get install -f

4. Launch Quran Caption from the applications menu, or run qurancaption in a terminal.

macOS: “app is damaged” error

A damaged-app alert can indicate a corrupt or modified download, so download a fresh copy from this site or the official release first. If a trusted unsigned release is still blocked after copying it to Applications, the following quarantine workaround may help:

1. Make sure the app is in /Applications.
2. Run this command in Terminal:

sudo xattr -cr "/Applications/Quran Caption.app"

Then reopen Quran Caption from Applications.

Software updates

When a new desktop version is detected, open the update prompt in the app and choose to install it. The app downloads the update and restarts after installation. Project data is stored separately from the application; make a backup and keep your media files before reinstalling or moving to another computer.

Troubleshooting

• Windows: for an unrecognized-app warning, follow the source checks in the Windows installation steps above.
• macOS: distinguish an unverified-developer warning from a damaged-app alert, then follow the corresponding instructions above.
• Linux: for AppImage, make sure the file has execution permissions; for .deb, make sure you have administrator privileges.

First launch

On first launch you can create a new project or import an existing one.
